The guitar was a gift from a friend of mine, I had always wanted to learn how to play and never found the time. The day he gave it to me, he said “This is your present.” I smiled and thanked him as we went inside his house for dinner. He pulled out this beautiful new Fender Stratocaster with all the trimmings; strings, picks, tuner… you name it! As soon as I strummed my new instrument on Christmas Eve night, my family knew what they were getting me for next year.
“Merry Christmas!” The woman with the guitar in front of her yelled.
She had just finished playing one of her favorite songs, and was now standing up on top of a stool with an ugly sweater that she had made herself. It wasn’t just any old sweater though; it was covered in lights that changed colors to match whatever song she played. She smiled brightly at everyone who came by, wishing them Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, whichever they preferred. This year’s Xmas party was going to be extra special because she would be performing all night long for anyone who wanted to join in on the fun!
“Last Christmas, I got you a G-String.” Said the guy in the Hawaiian sweater to his partner. “I want an electric guitar this year!” She retorted angrily. This was all too much for her–he had never even played the instrument before! The present had been one of those ideas that sounded great at first but then started to seem like more trouble than it was worth once he tried playing with it for real. He wanted to make up for it somehow and looked around on Amazon until he found something perfect–a Guitar Xmas ugly christmas sweater! Best of all, since she couldn’t get down there herself because she needed someone else who could drive her home, they were having their gift exchange over Skype so
Mistletoe hung from the ceiling of the store, and a warmth radiated from it. The air was heavy with an aroma that could only be described as different. It wasn’t bad or good either, just different to breathe in. I walked towards one of the few shelves filled with sweaters to find something for Christmas morning. As I looked at them all, my attention was drawn to a yellow sweater covered in snowmen making various facial expressions. A smile crept across my face and I picked up the sweater and held it against myself as if trying to imagine what it would look like on me. And then before I knew what had happened, someone else’s hand reached out and grabbed it away from me! “Hey!” I shouted
It was a cold and snowy day, but nobody could be bothered with Christmas shopping. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to go out and buy presents for the people in their lives, but rather that there just weren’t very many people around at all. So when an old woman wandered into the store looking for something to buy her grandson, everyone jumped on board to help her pick out something!
It’s Christmas and you’re in the store shopping for a last minute gift. You come across an ugly red and white sweater with a guitar on it, and think to yourself “I should get this for my dad!” But then you also notice the price tag: $29.99. The same ugly sweater is priced at $20 over in another section of the store! What do you do?
